Black Gum is the tree to add to your yard for beautiful fall color. The leaves of this tree turn a scarlet red. The leaves are accompanied by dark blue-black fruit that will hold on to winter until the birds enjoys enjoy them. The flowers are small and white-green. Though they are not a main show piece of this tree, they do feed bees. Black Gum prefers full sun to part shade and medium to wet soil. It can grow up to 45 ft tall and have a crown spread of 25 ft. It is tolerant of clay soil, wet soil, and Black Walnut. Zones 3-9.
