This cultivar of American wisteria blooms at a younger age than the Asian species, usually in the first season. The disease resistant leaves appear before the fragrant, vividly blue flowers on drooping racemes 4-6 inches long in May & June.  A brown, bean-like pod persists until winter. Host plant for Marine Blue. This species is less aggressive than the similar Asian species, reaching a height of 25-30 feet.
