Black willow is native to the moist to wet soils of floodplains, river banks and marshes, thereby making is a great tree to establish along an eroding streambank or to add to a wetland habitat. Fast growing. The flexible young stems can be used for basketmaking.  Larval host for Mourning Cloak, Red-spotted Purple, Viceroy and Tiger Swallowtail butterflies. 30-60 ft. tall & wide.

Soil: moist to wet
