Blue cohosh grows 1-3 feet tall on strong, upright stems of blue-green foliage in shady woodland areas. The inconspicuous, brownish-green to yellowish-green flowers bloom in April in its third or fourth year, yielding to a showy, dark blue, grape-like fruit which is poisonous.
