Fire Pink (Silene virginica)

The bright crimson flowers of fire pink attract hummingbirds and can bloom for a month or longer, brightening a wooded area or shady garden. Native to rich woodlands and rocky slopes of the eastern and SE U.S., it requires a well-drained soil in light to medium shade. Grows on disturbed sites and can often be seen on roadside slopes. Short-lived but often self-sows in open soil. Grows 1-2 feet.
