Culver's Root (Veronicastrum virginicum )


This easy to grow erect perennial is found from barrens to meadows. Also found occurring in wetlands. The only species in it's genus found in North America. Flowering throughout the summer, it boasts showy spikes of lavender that are 3-8" tall. Spikes are formed by long tubular flowers, making it a favorite of bees and butterflies. Great as a woodland border. The roots of this native are used in medicinal teas to treat several ailments. However, caution should be taken as it can be potentially  toxic.

Bloom time: July thru September
