River Oats (Chasmanthium latifolium)

from 9.95

River Oats is a very distinctive native cool-season grass named for its oat-like seed-heads and habitat of river and stream banks, where it aids in bank stabilization. The drooping pedicels change color throughout the season from an early translucent green to a rich brown later in the summer and fall.  It is fairly low-maintenance, tolerant of sun or shade, dry conditions and occasional flooding. It grows to 2 ft. tall. The seeds are eaten by birds and small mammals. A larval host for Pepper & Salt Skipper, Bells Road Side Skipper and Bronzed Roadside Skipper.
