Winecups (Callirhoe involucrata)

The flowers of this attractive, spreading, drought-tolerant perennial have a white spot at the base of their five magenta petals. They are borne on long stalks and close in the evening, open in the morning and remain closed after pollination.  They bloom May to June. This plant looks great trailing over a wall.

A nectar source for bees and butterflies and a larval host for the Gray Hairstreak butterfly.
