SIZE: ⬆3-7 ft. ↔2-4 ft.

FLOWERS: White or Pink bloom July-September. We have mixed colors so we can’t assure the color.

WILDLIFE: Attracts butterflies

LARVAL HOST TO: Common Checkered Skipper, Gray Hairstreak, Painted Lady butterflies and Yellow Scallop and Io moth and Pearly Wood Nymph.

DISTRIBUTION: AL , AR , CA , CT , DC , DE , FL , GA , IL , IN , KS , KY , LA , MA , MD , MI , MO , MS , NC , NJ , NM , NY , OH , OK , PA , RI , SC , TN , TX , UT , VA , WI , WV

Also called Marshmallow Hibiscus/ Plant in moist borders or wet or low spots on the yard. Effective species to plant along streams or ponds. Can be used as a temporary summer hedge or screen or also in large containers. Wet soil tolerant.

This shrub-like perennial is a vigorous grower with large, glabrous leaves and 4-5" wide flowers that range from pink to white. The flowers last one to two days, but they appear throughout the growing season. Native to moist places, Swamp Rose Mallow tolerates wet soils. Best grown in moist, fertile soils, but grows well in normal garden soil as long as is not let dry out. Regular watering and fertilization during the growing season. If bushy plants are desired, pinch the plants when they reach 8” and again at 12”. Deadhead individual, spent flowers to maintain the appearance. In late autumn. cut back the stems to approximately 3-4 inches tall. Our plants are either all white, white with red eye spot or all pink.
